Windows 10 comes outfitted with an Anti-Virus developed by Microsoft. Although you DO have the ability to download different anti-viruses on windows 10, you can just stick with Windows Defender. Why you ask? Microsoft developed Windows Defender in hopes of allowing it’s users to use their anti-virus instead of having to pay other companies to use theirs. With Windows Defender, you are protected against Worms, Viruses, Trojan horses, Spyware, Adware and pretty much any other malicious programs. So why use other programs if Microsoft has one of its own that work perfectly? And of course, it is free! However, with every anti-virus programs there are vulnerabilities. Many skeptics say that Microsoft’s Windows Defender does not protect the user against all malicious software, but honestly if you keep your computer up to date with everything you should be fine. Follow these 7 great tips for keeping your as safe as it can be against malicious programs and attacks.
1.Use a modern operating system.
There are many people running on some pretty old operating systems, and they run well but is it worth it in the long run? Not really. Older operating systems have more of a chance of being exploited against because its makers no longer really pay attention to it. So be sure to upgrade your computer every couple of years, you may be paying a lot more but you would have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are safer.
2. Keeping your computer up to date.
Computers do have security updates, software bug fixes, and many other things that improve the computer. Keeping Windows Defender and your computer’s software up to date is VITAL to keeping your computer safe against malicious programs.
3. Keep your anti-virus up to date! This is a big duh! But some people just leave it there and never check up on it. Keep your anti-virus up to date in order for it to continue to protect you against attacks.
4. Find the best anti-virus on the market.
Although Windows 10 does not need another anti-virus program to protect it, you can download others that may be more effective than Windows Defender. Searching up on Google you will find very good anti-virus programs that can be an alternative to Windows Defender. It may cost you a bit more but if you are really worried about your computer being penetrated by a malicious program then you’re investing your money into your own well-being.
5. Lastly, you can just be very careful in your use of your computer.
I’m not saying to download 5 different anti-viruses and never download any type of unknown download, no. If you’re sharing the computer, maybe you should set up one administrative account for yourself if you are more technologically-smart and give the other user a normal account. This allows you to be able to give the go-ahead to the other user if they make a bad download. Exercising caution on the internet is great, just don’t be too paranoid as these things aren’t that hard to undo.
So, does Windows 10 need an anti-virus? No, it doesn’t. However, you can download one for extra precaution but just being a safe and smart PC user should be enough with Windows Defender.
